  1. Penshurst Place is a historic building near Tonbridge. It is the ancestral home of the Sidney family, and was the birthplace of the great Elizabethan poet, courtier and soldier, Sir Philip Sidney. The original medieval house is one of the most complete examples of fourteenth century domestic architecture in England surviving in its original location. Its gardens are open for public viewing

  3. Henry VIII owned Penshurst Place and used it as his hunting lodge whilst he was reputedly courting Anne Boleyn at Hever Castle.
The Sidney family, owners of Penshurst Place since 1552, are related to the Churchill’s through the Spencer family.
