Suger (ou Suger de Saint-Denis) était un homme d'église mais aussi un homme d'État français né à la fin du XIème siècle et mort en 1151. Quand le roi Louis VII partit en croisade, c'est à lui qu'il confia le royaume, le nommant regeant. Suger est représenté ici avec deux des attributs du pouvoir royal : la couronne posée sur un coussin, et la "main de justice" (un ragalia, objet symbolique de la royauté) postée dans sa main gauche qui symbolise le pouvoir de rendre la justice.
Suger (or Suger de Saint-Denis), born at the end of the eleventh century, was one of the last Frankish abbot-statesmen, a historian, and the influential first patron of Gothic architecture. He also served as the friend and counsellor, both of Louis VI and Louis VII, and ran the realm when Louis VII went on a cruisade. He is represented here with two royal power attributes: the "hand of justice" (a stick in his left hand) and a cushion-laid crown.
