BURG EHRENBERG

  1. The fortifications of Ehrenberg stand at a strategically important point known as the Ehrenberger Klause ("gorge" or "narrows"). This narrow pass down to the plain around Reutte separates the Lech valley area from the region known as Zwischentoren and the Fernpass.
The first castle of Ehrenberg was built in the 13th century, before being expanded and become the legal centre of the area before the court was moved to Reutte in the 16th century and before being largely destroyed in the French invasion of Tyrol in the early 19th century.
